House of Anointing

Can I use anointing oil to bless my home?

Yes. Anointing a home can be a prophetic act of dedication, expressing the decision to place the household under the authority of Jesus Christ. Scripture demonstrates that anointing was not limited to people. Jacob poured oil upon the stone he established at Bethel following his encounter with God (Genesis 28:18; 35:14), while Moses was instructed to anoint the Tabernacle and its furnishings, setting them apart for sacred service (Exodus 40:9--11). The biblical form of anointing associated with hallowing people, garments, objects and places is sprinkling. Its purpose differs from pouring oil upon someone to appoint them to a position of ministry. Sprinkling is an outward expression of consecration: something is being dedicated to the Lord and set apart for His purposes. When applying this principle to a home, it is important to understand the relationship between anointing and authority. We should not presume to exercise authority over another person's property or household simply because we believe that anointing it would be beneficial. The responsibility to dedicate a home belongs to those who have legitimate responsibility for it.

A meaningful way to dedicate your home is to begin by praying together and acknowledging Jesus Christ as its highest authority. If you are moving into a new home, this may also be an appropriate moment to pray concerning its previous use and to ask God for cleansing, forgiveness and restoration wherever these are needed. You may then sprinkle a little anointing oil in the rooms and anoint the doorposts, dedicating the household to the Lord in the name of Jesus Christ. The act expresses your faith that your home belongs under His authority and that your family desires to live according to His Word. Joshua's declaration provides a fitting foundation for such a commitment: he and his household would serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). The oil itself does not establish a supernatural boundary through its chemical properties, nor does the act replace the responsibility to live in obedience to God. True dedication involves more than performing an outward action. It means welcoming the authority of Jesus Christ into the daily decisions, relationships and spiritual life of the household.
